Here is the cost table from the SIMplifica service page, the government's own ticket desk for the viewpoint. Adults pay one flat price. There is no reduced adult fare published anywhere on the service.

The exemptions are a separate list, covered below.

Why Blogs Quote €2, €3 Or Free

Because the fee changed, and some official pages have not fully caught up. The tariffs were first fixed by Portaria 946/2022 of 22 December. Portaria 591/2025 of 27 October amended them a second time, and that is the legal basis for the current adult price of $5.74 (€5) in the SIMplifica cost table.

Visit Madeira's own Cabo Girão page agrees on €5 in its access box, yet still carries an old line lower down saying entry is €2. The SIMplifica cost table is the one that counts. There is also a separate SIMplifica service for tourism companies buying tickets or vouchers for their groups, so if a guide collects your ticket, that is what they are doing.

The Câmara de Lobos municipal website publishes no ticket or hours page for the viewpoint at all, because the ticket is regional, not municipal.

Residents And Wheelchair Users

Madeira residents register on SIMplifica and get a resident card with a QR code, which they show at the turnstiles for free entry. Children up to 12 inclusive go free, resident or not. People with reduced mobility and wheelchair users are also exempt, under Despacho 99/2023.

Everyone else buys an adult ticket on SIMplifica, where tourists do not need to register.

From the platform the view runs over Câmara de Lobos and along the coast to Funchal. Straight down, at the foot of the cliff, lie the Fajã do Rancho and the Fajã do Cabo Girão, small areas of cultivated land at the foot of the cliffs, now classified as a Protected Landscape.

The Chapel Next To The Viewpoint

Visit Madeira names the Nossa Senhora de Fátima chapel near Cabo Girão, built in 1951, as one of the island's main pilgrimage sites.

The line runs every day of the week. It has two cabins, each with 6 seats, and there is a bar and restaurant at the station. The contact address is Estrada Stª Clara, Sítio do Rancho, 9300-145 Câmara de Lobos.

What The Official Pages Do Not Publish

No fare and no opening hours appear on any official page for this cable car, so we print none. A price you see on a third-party site is not an official figure. If the ride matters to your plan, contact the operator directly before you go, or treat the descent as a bonus rather than a plan.

How The Cliff Got Its Name

Gaspar Frutuoso's Saudades da Terra records that Zarco's crew ended the giro, the turn, of their first day surveying the coast at this point. Cabo Girão is the cape where the turn ended.

The Quarry That Built Funchal

Soft stone, cantaria mole, was quarried at Cabo Girão and carried to Funchal, where it went into Funchal Cathedral, the Santa Clara convent, the São Tiago fort, the Funchal city hall and Quinta das Cruzes. King Manuel I ordered special boats to carry the stone. The Câmara de Lobos council marked this heritage in a news piece on the Cabo Girão soft stone.

A Cliff With Three Layers Of Protection

The protected area is managed as the GIRO site and has three parts. The table below sets them out, with the classifications as published on the protected area's own site. A fourth line notes the geosite listing.

Most visitors arrive in a hire car or on a tour. The choices, and their limits.

• By car. Hire wheels give you the freedom to continue along the coast after the platform. See car hire in Madeira. No drive time from Funchal is published on any official page, so we print none.

• By tour. The Skywalk, Porto Moniz, Seixal and Fanal 4WD tour and the Fanal Forest and Skywalk Experience tour both run full-day west-coast circuits from Funchal with pickup. Neither listing names Cabo Girão in the text we hold, and neither bundles the platform ticket, so read the itinerary and budget the $5.74 (€5) at the turnstile. Be careful with a third option, the eastern tour whose skywalk stop is the Guindaste skywalk, a different place in the east of the island.
• By bus. No bus line or journey time to Cabo Girão appears in the official facts we hold. Check getting around Madeira and the operator directly.

Five lines worth knowing before the turnstile, each with its source.

The viewpoint opens at 08:00 and closes at 20:00, so it fits at either end of a day based in Funchal. A simple order: the platform, then down into Câmara de Lobos for the bay. The second pattern is a west-coast day. The Skywalk, Porto Moniz, Seixal and Fanal 4WD tour and the Fanal Forest and Skywalk Experience tour both run full days from Funchal with a skywalk named in the listing, with the caveat that neither names Cabo Girão in the text we hold and neither bundles the platform ticket.
